Excerpt from the ARC Gallery in Chicago, IL:
ARC Gallery was founded in the 70’s during the height of the Feminist Art Movement, we have decided to organize a tribute to feminist exhibitions. Rather than revisit the history of Feminist Art and its early leaders, ARC is choosing to celebrate the gallery’s feminist history by examining what else Feminist Art is. That is, rather than reducing feminism’s meaning to one familiar artist or era, ARC would like to explore what feminist art was, what it has come to be, and where it is going.
In mounting this juried group exhibition, ARC’s goal is not to deride or disown dominant associations or previous generations. Our impulse is additive and exploratory rather than denunciatory. ARC hopes to uncover other ways feminism has been, or will be, made visible particularly in regard to the contemporary art scene.
