Wow, my heart has been feeling so heavy the last few days. Someone was commenting on the riots in the US and really missed the mark on understanding how it has come to this. There are peaceful protests. Riots are not the answer but people are full of rage. The Black community have done just about everything by the book even when their hands were tied behind their backs... from the Jim Crow laws, to Black women being sterilized without their permission, to Henrietta Lacks cancer cells being taken for research and cures to being hunted like an animal while jogging, etc. .

I consider myself to be an educated woman with patience and knowledge but even I can't guarantee how I might act if all of these things kept happening to my community and I see "people" being killed in broad daylight while the whole world watches, I can't imagine the fire brewing inside. The anger and destructive thoughts that might occur because you've had enough. .

I’ve been othered for my beliefs and marginalized but even in that I see my privilege. It is up to every single person who benefits from #whiteprivilege to to stand for the rights of our brothers and sisters. Do not become desensitized. Continue talking about #race, check in with friends, family and community. I don’t have the answers but I do know we need to see each other with #compassion and #understanding.

This painting came about by thinking of some of the lower energies we experience (Systemic Racism, Islamophobia, and Anti Semitism). Someone once said “Hate is misguided Love”. So, I create this painting that focused on love and faith through my lens and experiences. Check out my second post with a video talking about this piece in a little more detail. I really wanted to go to the beach and just sit by the ocean last weekend. I heard from a family friend that some people where not following social distance suggestions. So sadly, my hopes of going will have to wait. I guess, I’ll just keep painting it for now.
